Meet the team

Sunfish Charters Limited, owned and operated by Gisela and Mike, is based in Tauranga – gateway to the rich waters of New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty. Mike, a civil engineer, (whose game fishing and seafaring exploits over the years has taken him from the Eastern Atlantic, to the Indian Ocean, the Pacific and the Caribbean) retired from professional life some years ago to pursue his passion for deep sea fishing and diving while enjoying first hand, the spectacular beauty that New Zealand and its marine life have to offer.

Our charter boat, the 12 m purpose-built sports fisher "Sunfish 1" is surveyed to operate from the North Cape to the East Cape and operates under a strict Safe Ship Management policy. She carries a large array of electronic navigation and fish finding instruments and carries safety and communications equipment that exceed maritime requirements.

The team have demonstrated their commitment to quality and dedication to customer satisfaction by becoming the first fishing charter vessel in the Bay of Plenty to achieve New Zealand's Qualmark accreditation. Our goal is to deliver the best value for money experience on the Bay of Plenty and we are confident that we have the knowledge, equipment, commitment and skills to bring both the novice and expert into contact with some of the best fishing and diving New Zealand has to offer.
