Rena Update

We at Sunfish apologize to our clients for the inconvenience suffered as a result of the grounding of the Rena and subsequent implementation of an exclusion zone around the ship.

Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of the salvage crews and volunteers, the effects of the Rena grounding have been reduced to a mere "inconvenience" as far as recreational fishing is concerned.

There is still much to do before all the containers are recovered and the ship is removed, but our traditional fishing areas are again free (except for the 2 mile exclusion zone around the Rena) and the Ministry of Fisheries have confirmed that after extensive testing of the marine life in the Western Bay of Plenty, no traces of hydrocarbons have been found in either fin fish or cray fish and that our target species are safe to eat.
